To reach Manungkot, which is 160 kilometers from Kathmandu and 55 kilometers from Pokhara, one has to travel a 10-kilometer-long, sometimes paved, road from Damauli, the headquarters of Tanahun district, to Manungkot. The destination can be easily reached by scooter, bike, or car. Pedestrians have to walk for about 1 hour from Damauli. Hotel operators say that more than 5,000 tourists arrive in Manungkot, which is especially crowded on Fridays and Saturdays.
Locals had left the village around 2052 BS due to a lack of drinking water. Even now, the problem of drinking water is still there. Treated jars and tanker water from the market are now providing an alternative to water in Manungkot.
After the increase in tourists in Manungkot, those who left the village and went down to the city have started doing business again in Manungkot. Now, many hotels and restaurants have opened there for accommodation and food.
