Pathivara temple’s significance: Complete Travel Guide 2025

Pathivara Temple’s significance,

In ancient times, Pathivara temple‘s significance was a legend that the place where Goddess Parvati landed her right foot when she returned from austerity in the Himalayas and received a boon is the present Pathibhara temple.

It is said that at that time, Goddess Parvati’s left foot landed in Taplejung (present-day Pathibhara). Therefore, this Pathibhara is also called Bhani Pathibhara (small Pathibhara).

This holy place is especially believed to have been established in the year 2035 B.S., when the Goddess asked Dilliram Pathak (a Tantric person from present-day Budhabare Jhapa) to go there in a dream and worship the rock.

Pathibhara means a holy pilgrimage site, where it is believed that the wishes of the devotees will be fulfilled when they worship.

Saints hold different views and interpretations about the origin of Pathibhara Temple.

They say that the place where a monk came and meditated around 1824 B.S. is the present-day Pathibhara. In this way, the saints used to live in hut ashrams.

Based on the word “kuti,” it can be assumed that the nearby settlement may have been “kutidanda.” Therefore, it cannot be confirmed that the origin of Pathibhara Devi was like this.

Many other statements have been found, but in any case, this Pathibhara Devi is a powerful goddess. Since devotees worship her and make their wishes come true, devotees flock here.

Pathibhara Devi Temple is situated in Rong Rural Municipality, approximately 33 kilometers north of Charali.

In Jhapa, 48 kilometers east of Ilam headquarters, at an altitude of 1,950 meters above sea level.

From this temple area, from the plains of Jhap, through various places in India to Bangladesh, the third-highest peak of the world, Kanchenjunga, can be easily seen with the eye.

Located on the top of a hill covered with lush green forests, this Pathibhara temple is a unique gift of nature.

Sometimes the cold air of Kanchenjunga, sometimes the dense darkness of fog, has become the special identity of this area. This area has been made more beautiful by various types of gold and animals.

Due to the green forest, animals, gold, and flowers, as well as the cool climate, anyone who reaches here can experience heavenly bliss.
